Core Programmes
Education: Chisombezi noted that there is no any other institution in the country that provides education services to Deafblind people, despite education being a human right. The centre therefore aims at providing access to residential and community based education fro the deafblind children and adults.
Awareness raising: Limited awareness of the existence of deafblindness as a disability in the society has resulted into lack of knowldge on deablind issues; lack of understanding the deafblind individuals and lack of mainstreaming deafblind persons into different services and documentation. Chisombezi work to enhance knowledge on the existence of deafblindness as a disability.
Livelihood: Limited access to resources such as loans among the Deafblind persons due to the nature of the disability has resulted into poverty and malnutrition conditions. Through this programmes, Chisombezi aims at improving access to resources among Deafblind persons.
Capacity building: There is limited capacity in different areas at Chisombezi Deafblind Centre among parents, guardians, children, adults, other stakeholders like CBR, project management. Chisombezi as an organisation enhances the capacity of its workers in the areas of education of the deafblind and project management.
Resource Mobilisation: There are limited resources to enable the organisation to provide quality services to the Deafblind persons. Chisombezi identifies individuals, groups, organisations for partnership and initiation and strengthening of income generating activities that support and sustain the smooth running of the organisation.
Gender: The organisation lacks policies to ensure equality between men and women, boys and girls. Chisombezi ensures the mainstreaming of gender in all its programmes.
Collaboration: Chisombezi believes that collaborative approach to service delivery is more effective, hence we ensure strengthened collaboration systems with partners in all our programmes.
